Turning the club’s values into impact on and off the court

Bàsquet Girona

Bàsquet Girona’s corporate sustainability strategy

A club can improve its management while also mobilizing an entire community around sustainability.

Where this project comes from

Bàsquet Girona is a sports club with strong ties to the city, its youth academy and its community. Its activity combines competition, training, events, mobility, facilities, products and relationships with a wide network of partners.

The club was already driving environmental and social initiatives, but needed a structure to connect what had been done with its values and future priorities. The challenge was to organize that effort, measure it and communicate it consistently.

Spora develops a corporate sustainability strategy that integrates diagnosis, roadmap, partnerships, impact communication and carbon footprint. The project turns scattered initiatives into a shared direction across the club’s different areas.

What it transforms and why it matters

The strategy places sustainability within the club’s decisions. Governance, people, procurement, community and environment are analyzed together to identify strengths, formalization needs and opportunities for collaboration.

The carbon footprint connects the commitment to concrete sources of impact. The analysis includes energy, water and mobility, including travel linked to competition and youth teams, and distinguishes direct control from the capacity to influence.

This reading is essential when part of the activity takes place in public facilities or depends on sports schedules, families and third parties. The roadmap makes it possible to prioritize viable measures and work with the stakeholders who need to be involved in each change.

Sports sustainability plays out as a network, involving teams, families, facilities, sponsors and fans.

How we do it

The project combines a B Corp impact assessment with interviews and workshops across different departments. This work makes it possible to test policies and data against the experience of the people who manage operations, procurement, sponsorship, product, the youth academy and communication.

The diagnosis is rounded out with benchmarking against other sports clubs and organizations and with an inventory of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Materiality analysis helps separate visible actions from those that could deliver a more significant environmental or social improvement.

Building on this base, workstreams are organized around reduction and circularity, territorial impact and strategic partnerships. Each initiative is linked to owners, partners, indicators and a shared narrative for communicating progress without overstating results.

We measure impact and turn it into actions each area of the club can recognize and act on.

Learnings and continuity

In sport, the measures with the greatest potential usually require coordination. Changing mobility or how a facility operates doesn’t depend on one person alone, but the club can provide data, bring partners together and enable new practices.

Communication is also part of the strategy. Explaining decisions, limits and learnings strengthens credibility and helps fans understand how they can take part, from matchday to their everyday commutes.

Spora supports Bàsquet Girona so the roadmap evolves with the club. Ongoing follow-up makes it possible to consolidate policies, review indicators and turn new ideas into projects aligned with the environmental, social and territorial impact the club wants to generate.

We support the club so every season leaves better results off the scoreboard too.
